Stone Computers is a computer manufacturer and hardware reseller specialising in the supply of PCs, notebooks, servers, networking equipment, peripherals and audio-visual products to Public Sector organisations, including Central and Local Government, Healthcare and Education. Stone Computers has gained an enviable reputation for reliability and stability with over 40,000 PCs sold in the last year. The company has also earned the confidence of the Education sector, with over 500 UK Schools, Colleges and Universities making regular purchases.

Stone Computers sales model revolves around telemarketing and field sales professionals building and closing the sale. Their old website was built to support this sales process. With the success of competitors such as DABS and RM Plc Stone Computers realised that they were missing out on a major online market. Stone Computers wanted to make sure that their new website was built with the search engines in mind. They needed the website to employ the latest search engine techniques.

Google was shut out by the site’s structure.

SmARTebusiness’s search engine optimisation team started with a thorough analysis of the website using purpose built in house tools. For example Google search engine indexing was emulated to see how it fared when scanning the site. Major problems were soon highlighted and these were added to the ‘As is’ assessment. A site quality check showed up areas where customer experience could be hurt was communicated to Stone Computer’s technical team. At the end of the research phase a report was compiled with recommendations for each part of the website.
